COMMISSION SPOTLIGHT AWARD FOR

JANUARY 2008

Regular readers will remember that the Niagara Beautification Commission awarded their monthly "spotlight" to the Red Coach Inn for the month of December 2007.

This month Celenza Florist at 1412 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls was the recepient. The "spotlight" will bedisplayed in their window during the month of January 2008 in appreciation for helping to keep Niagara Falls beautiful.

Established in 1969 by Mary Ann Celenza Fernandez as a one-person organization, the staff has now grown to seven full time employees. This is a full service flower shop with FTD designation and a staff of professional designers handling all their clients needs for all occasions including local and worldwide deliveries.

Celenza Florist is located in one of the oldest buildings in the Little Italy area of Niagara Falls. It is difficult to pass by without taking notice of the ever changing window displays. Seasonal flowers and themes are something to look forward to while driving or walking down Pine Avenue. Parishoners at St. Joseph's Catholic Church across the street are met with these beautiful displays while attending worship services.

During the presentation of this award on Saturday, January 5th, members of the NBC selection committee and the Commission were told some exciting news by owner Mary Ann Fernandez. She commissioned well-known Little Italy muralist Gabe Porto to apply his artist's brush to both sides of the building. As soon as the weather allows, murals with a flowerbox motif will be mounted on each side of the building. This will add to the real flowerboxes mounted on the second story front windows and those on the front sidewalk and should generate some real applause for this business.

Make an effort to visit this popular commercial establishment on Pine Avenue when you are in the neighborhood and tell Mary Ann and her staff how you appreciate the extra efforts they make to "keeping Niagara Falls beautiful". Upon receiving the news of the award, she simply stated "that's what we do - we make things beautiful".
